AAUW NOCB Honors Healthcare Heroes at Willow Springs Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center

Local Non-Profit Hosts Superhero-Themed Recognition Event and Makes Donation on Behalf of Brick, N.J., Skilled Nursing Facility

BRICK, N.J., July 15, 2020 – To honor the healthcare heroes at Willow Springs Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, the American Association of University Women’s Northern Ocean County Branch (AAUW NOCB) recently hosted a superhero-themed recognition event at the skilled nursing facility in Brick. A longtime supporter of Willow Springs, the AAUW NOCB also donated $1,000 to the AAUW National Greatest Needs Fund in honor of Willow Springs.

To the delight of Willow Springs’ staff, the AAUW NOCB event featured lunch and dinner from Brick’s Tuscany Restaurant, along with colorful balloons and decorations. Cheri Shefler (left), director of speech therapy, and Hayley Hyde, social worker, were among the care team members who enjoyed the superhero-themed festivities.

Willow Springs and the AAUW NOCB have a longtime history of mutual support. The skilled nursing facility regularly hosts the organization’s membership and board meetings, as well as fundraisers. During the challenging last few months, the AAUW NOCB has delivered flowers, homemade masks and countless cards with words of encouragement for the staff and patients at Willow Springs.

“We are so touched by the heartfelt support and kindness of AAUW NOCB’s leadership team and membership; they are amazing women,” said Kathy Kimm, director of physician and hospital relations at Willow Springs. “We thank them for their outpouring of support, and the special donation recognizing our facility’s support and dedication to the mission of the AAUW. Their efforts really mean more than words can say.”

A 501(c) non-profit, the AAUW NOCB focuses on advancing gender equity for women and girls through education, research and advocacy. The AAUW’s national organization was first established in 1881.

Located at 1049 Burnt Tavern Road, Willow Springs Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. Its specialized programming aims to meet the specific healthcare needs of the local community.
